It’s been six months since Denver Superintendent Tom Boasberg took off for Latin America on an unusual sabbatical.
He said he’d be back in half a year. That time has elapsed, prompting this question from a Chalkbeat reader:

The answer is that he’ll be back soon. Boasberg plans to return to the top job at Denver Public Schools July 18, district officials told Chalkbeat. Senior administrator Susana Cordova has been serving as acting superintendent in his absence.
Before that, Cordova was chief of schools, a high-ranking job that included overseeing the leaders of both traditional and innovation schools. DPS spokesman Will Jones said Cordova and Boasberg have been discussing what her future title and duties will be.
One thing is for sure: When Boasberg returns, he will face a full slate of pressing issues. Scores from state tests Denver students took this spring are scheduled to be released in August. A new school closure policy is set to go into effect this fall. And DPS is planning to ask voters to approve a $572 million bond issue to build more schools and upgrade existing ones, and a $56.6 million mill levy override to pay for programs and staff.
