Breaking: Carroll will not run for DPS board

Former Colorado House Speaker and Denver attorney Terrance Carroll has officially decided not to run for the at-large seat on the board that will be vacated by board President Mary Seawell in November.

The move may disappoint Denver school reformers who want to see the district continue on its current trajectory. Seawell surprised everyone last week by reversing course and announcing that she would not seek re-election due to work and family demands, leaving a big void in what is expected to be a hotly contested election.

Carroll toyed with the idea of running for Seawell’s seat for a few days but has opted against a board run, he wrote in an email message Monday morning to EdNews.

“Although I strongly support Supt. Boasberg and DPS’ current direction, I believe I’m a much stronger partner in pursuing substantive reform outside of elected office,” Carroll wrote.
