DPS launches Spanish-language health workshops

Spanish-speaking families in Denver, Colo., are the focus of a new school initiative: free health workshops.

The workshops, which begin Feb. 11, will last four hours and cover nutrition, exercise and health. All classes are held Saturday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., are offered in four different locations and are completely free. Giveaways are available at the classes, as well as free lunch and child care.

The workshops are sponsored by the Denver Public Schools “Healthy Schools Initiative” and the Multicultural Outreach Office in the hopes that the healthier a student is, the more they will learn. The workshops also offer families a chance to connect with other community members near them who are interested in health and wellness issues.

Special rates on gym memberships at Sound Body Sound Mind DPS fitness centers will also be offered – $30 per semester for students and $7.50 per month for community members.

Registration is done by phone at 720-423-8951. Ask for Marisol or Gina.
