School boards could see lots of new faces

The candidate lists have been set for the Nov. 5 school board elections, and in many districts there are lot of newcomers on the ballot.

In most districts other than Denver, candidates run to represent specific parts of the district, but citizens district-wide vote on all candidates. In some districts all candidates run district-wide and don’t represent specific areas.

Here’s a listing of candidates in major districts in the metro area and along the northern Front Range.

Adams 12-Five Star
(2 of 5 seats on the ballot)

  • District 3
- David M. Anthony, Joshua Bastian, Debbie Christensen, David Elliott, Kathy Plomer
  • District 4
- Rico Figueroa 
(incumbent), Amy Speers

Aurora
(4 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • All board members serve at-large – Jasper Armstrong, Amber Drevon, Eric Nelson, JulieMarie Shepherd (incumbent), Barbara Yamrick

Boulder Valley
(3 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • Because there’s only one candidate in each open district, the school board has the option of cancelling the election. The candidates are Tina Marquis in District B, incumbent Tom Miers in District E and incumbent Jennie Belval in District F.

Cherry Creek
(2 of 5 seats on the ballot)

  • District D – Brian Arnold, Randy Perlis (incumbent)
  • District E – Karen Fisher is unopposed

Denver Public Schools
(4 of 7 seats on the ballot)

Two DPS board seats (one is on the ballot this year) are filled by citywide votes. Other seats are filled only by voters in certain areas of the city.

  • At-large – Michael Kiley, Barbara O’Brien, Joan Poston
  • District 2 – Rosario C. deBaca, Rosemary Rodrigues
  • District 3 – Mike Johnson, Meg Schomp
  • District 4 – Roger Kilgore, Landri Taylor (appointed incumbent)

Douglas County
(4 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • District B – Barbra Chase, Jim Geddes
  • District D – Julie A. Keim, Judith Reynolds
  • District E – Doug Benevento (incumbent), Bill Hodges
  • District G – Ronda Scholting, Meghann Silverthorn (incumbent)

Jefferson County
(3 of 5 seats on the ballot)

  • District 1 – Tonya Aultman-Bettridge, Julie Williams
  • District 2 – Jeff Lamontagne, John Newkirk
  • District 5 – Ken Witt, Gordon ‘Spud’ Van de Water

Littleton
(3 of 5 seats on the ballot)

  • All board members serve at-large – Dallas Jones, Kelly Perez, Robert Reichardt, Jack Reutzel, Carrie Warren-Gully

Poudre
(3 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • District C – Melvin Hilgenberg, David Trask
  • District D – Appointed incumber Chritophe Febvre is unopposed
  • District E – Amber Ellinger, Nicholas Holian

St. Vrain
(4 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • The election has been cancelled because there’s only one candidate in each district. They are John Siegrist in District A, incumbent Debbie Lammers in District B, John Ahrens in District D and Paula Peairs in District F.

Thompson
(4 of 7 seats on the ballot)

  • District A – Jeff Berg (incumbent), Kathleen Hatanaka, Donna Rice
  • District B – Bryce Carlson, Janice Marchman (incumbent)
  • District E – Rocci Bryan, Lori Ward
  • District F – Carl Langer, Gerald Lauer

The list of Aurora candidates was corrected on Sept. 5.
