You would be part of an innovative growing network of education news sites around the country and you’d help produce what we think is the best education coverage in the state. We’re looking for an energetic up-and-comer who’s hungry to break news, dive deep into complex education issues and come up with new and interesting ways of telling the stories he or she uncovers.

EdNews Colorado, the award-winning nonprofit news site covering the Colorado public schools, the state education policymaking apparatus and the national education policy debate, seeks a staff reporter.
We’re part of a national network of education news sites that currently includes EdNews Colorado in Denver and GothamSchools in New York City, and which will likely grow to include at least one additional new site by the end of the year.
The position requires a self-starter who is hungry to break news; eager to dive into one of the most important public policy debates of our time; and enthusiastic about being part of a team that is creating new models for sustainable journalism. We believe that smart, contextualized and deep local reporting on education policy and practice can inform the decisions and actions of parents, educators and policymakers that will in turn lead to better outcomes for children.
Primary responsibilities include:
➢ Conceiving and reporting daily stories about public schools around Colorado, from breaking news to feature stories to long-term investigative projects➢ Contributing to collaborative reporting projects with partners including Rocky Mountain PBS and the I-News Network
➢ Assisting with aggregation of education news stories and opinion pieces
➢ Developing sources and collecting scoops on a competitive beat
➢ Innovating our approach to covering education online and distributing content via new avenues
➢ Taking a leading role in efforts to build and engage new and diverse audiences through online social-channels and community events
➢ Contributing to designing our strategy for building a successful and sustainable news organization
Knowledge of and passion for K-12 education issues is a strong plus. Enthusiasm for reporting and delivering news in unconventional ways, including through community outreach work and events, is a must. Candidates will ideally have experience reporting on deadline and a familiarity with new media, digital editing of audio and video, and data reporting and visualization methods. Knowledge of html, Excel, and WordPress is also a plus.
