Conference to explore link between fitness and academic performance

Red Hawk Elementary School in Erie, along with the St. Vrain Valley School District, will host the inaugural Excellence in Schools Summit: Correlations Between Fitness and Academic Success on April 25 and 26.

The conference, which beings with evening events on April 25 at Red Hawk, will feature speakers, panels, breakout sessions and booths focusing on school-based fitness, nutrition and wellness efforts and the effects of such initiatives on student performance and behavior. The keynote speaker at Friday’s lunch will be Dr. John Ratey, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the author of several books on the link between exercise and the brain’s performance. There will also be representatives from programs such as the 100 Mile Club, The Walking Classroom, Playworks, The Kitchen Community, Sqord, Build Our Kids’ Success, My School in Motion and Adventure to Fitness.
