Three Colorado districts named finalists for R2T

The Aurora, Boulder Valley and Denver school districts have made the list of 31 finalists for the latest round of the federal Race to the Top-District grant program.

The competition will award funds to school districts to expand personalized learning opportunities for students.

The U.S. Department of Education expects to choose five to 10 winners by Dec. 31. Winning districts will receive four-year grants of $4-$30 million depending on enrollment.

This year’s other Colorado applicants included Commerce City, Eagle, Harrison, Mapleton, Poudre and Thompson. Last year 10 state districts or groups of districts applied, but only St. Vrain won, gaining a four-year grant of $16.6 million.
