Monday Churn: New head for A+ Denver

What’s churning:

Van Schoales, most recently executive director of Education Reform Now, will be the new head of A+ Denver. Schoales previously worked for the Piton Foundation. Details in Alan Gottlieb’s blog post

Delegates to the National Education Association’s annual representative assembly, meeting in Chicago, have passed a new policy statement permitting the use of standardized test scores as one measure of teacher effectiveness. But the resolution specifies that no test currently in use is suitable for that purpose.

Education Week’s Stephen Sawchuck has been following all the NEA action on his blog. The representative assembly endorsed President Obama for re-election but also passed a resolution criticizing Education Secretary Arne Duncan for almost everything he’s done. The big event ends today. See also NEA’s own take on the event and the text of the things-we-hate-about-Arne resolution (it’s New Business Item C).

The Churn is published periodically during the summer.
