New early childhood program launches in Jeffco

A new early childhood program aimed at helping low-income families learn parenting skills will kick off this fall in Jefferson County. Modeled on the national Parent-Child Home Program, the program will target families of 126 two- and three-year-olds living in neighborhoods around Alameda and Bear Creek high schools.

The official announcement of the Parent-Child Home Program Jeffco will take place today at one of the district’s elementary schools.

In the program, trained home visitors come to families’ homes twice a week to model parenting techniques such as playing with or reading to children. Each week families receive an educational toy or book as a gift from the visitor. The new program is a collaboration between the Parent-Child Home Program, Jeffco Public Schools and the Jefferson Foundation.
