Former DCTA leaders back Merida

DPS board incumbent Andrea Merida Thursday said while the Denver Classroom Teachers Association as a whole may not have endorsed her candidacy in southwest Denver, she is counting on some of DCTA’s former leaders to wave campaign signs and raise money on her behalf.

In a short release, Merida said that former DCTA President Kim Ursetta and former Vice President Jennifer Portillo are endorsing her, along with other union and non-union teachers, as part of a new group called Teachers for Andrea. Southwest Denver union teacher-leaders Cecilia Miller and Andrea Panter, as well as long-standing union activist and teacher, Judy Cardenas, are also part of the new group.
